NLArts Programs

There are 4 main programs that repeat each year, but change and evolve depending on the artists who are leading them. Most NLArts programs take place at the Northern Liberties Community Center on 3rd Street and Fairmount Avenue.  The 4 main programs are: Summer Camp, Holiday Arts, Northern Lights and First Friday Workshops.

NLArts Summer Camp: is held the final 3 weeks of August/September before school starts.

This multi-disciplinary camp features performing and visual arts workshops along with trips and sports activities.  Each camp week ends with a performance or art exhibit created by the campers that is open to the public.

Holiday Arts: to help celebrate the holiday season, NLArts created a series of programs for kids and their families that are seasonal and not religious in nature.  NLArts also holds a Winter Break Camp during the school recess.

Northern Lights Festival: Many years ago, artists who lived in Northern Liberties began a tradition of displaying lights outside their home in March and April to celebrate spring.  NLArts designed a program that takes this further by offering workshops based on this theme to children.

First Friday Workshops: Each First Friday evening, NLArts presents evening workshops for kids that include dinner. These workshops allow parents to take advantage of First Friday events around the city and it provides a fun evening for kids.  Workshops have included: screen printing, culinary arts, making fairies, finger puppets, building a garden, wood burning and African style bead making, drumming, sewn sculptures and light art.

MLK Day of Service: In 2010, NLArts started a MLK Day of to make and deliver care packages to those in need in our community.
