Yay for Crochet...and Design!  We had a great  time learning new things together this winter!  Our interior design students did an amazing job creating mood boards, scale drawings and 3-D models as well as having fun together. Big thanks to Ms. Kim and Youth Design Philly! And from first stitch to following a pattern it was great to see the progress a few short weeks could bring to crochet study.

Art at Home

Spring is almost sprung which means flowers will be blooming soon! Celebrate the new season and Women's History Month with a Georgia O'Keeffe inspired drawing....here's what you need:

  • A flower --a real one is great but you can use a picture too!

  • Your favorite drawing materials -- markers, colored pencils or crayons

  • Paper

Take a minute to study your flower -- look at its shapes, its outline, its color -- then draw it really big! Try to fill up your whole paper and have fun seeing what you notice.

Here's what Georgia O'Keeffe herself had to say about flowers:

“When you take a flower in your hand and really look at it, it’s your world for the moment. I want to give that world to someone else. Most people in the city rush around so, they have no time to look at a flower. I want them to see it whether they want to or not.”

For more information about her life check out this video! And to learn more about other women artists, you can visit the excellent website of the National Museum of Women in the Arts.

Hope everyone is staying well and looking forward to lighter days ahead...
