Summer Camp 2023 Session 2

And that’s a wrap!

During the last three weeks of summer camp we leaped off the diving board, head first into the deep end, and immersed our campers in creative expression across the water. Our weekly themes included art in nature, Philly creatives, and storytelling. We had the pleasure of collaborating with local artists, businesses, and institutions within our community and we are forever grateful for their partnership and support. It was a fabulous time!

Production designer and illustrator Ben Woodward and musician Hanul Park of the Curtis Institute for Music treasured us with a visit to our space. Ms. Rebecca graciously hosted campers at Orkney Park for nature exploration and sculpture activities. Jenn, Carly, and Ms. Sara from Tula Yoga & Wellness held a mini-yoga retreat for our campers (and teachers!). The Random Tea Room opened their doors for our campers to make their own herbal infused treats (water ice with intention!). The Museum of Art and Wood gave a docent level tour of their main gallery exhibition that featured incredible kinetic and functional wood sculptures. We laughed, and cried, with Ponyo at the Philadelphia Film Society’s theatre. Our experience at the Fire Engine 29 became once in a lifetime when an urgent call erupted mid tour - don’t worry, it was a false alarm! The neighborhood favorite Amalgam Comics even came to us for a pop up shop. SO MANY TREASURES!

As our students turn to teenagers, grow to young adults, and onward through adulthood, we wish for the NLArts Beat to stay with them. We hope that the lessons learned, skills crafted, friendships built, and mentorships gained at NLArts guides our friends toward a path of success, compassion, and devotion to the arts.
